food_cannon_starter2

Project Description

Food Cannon Starter, 2025a.jan18
from "2023 starter e" original by M. Roam, revised to include a "loadTheCannon" block inside cake.

Instructions:
Starter for hungry coyote: the up/down buttons (and arrow keys) should aim the cake cannon. Click cannon or space bar to send cake toward the pup. (Note: can use keyboard arrows or the on-screen sprite arrows to adjust the cannon.)
Students should try snoopy and butterfly-clone projects before trying food-cannon!

Beware: don't put "go to (cannon)" inside cannon's "loadTheCannon" -- the cake's "shoot" block will handle this chore.

(Obscure teacher note: A cheap form of variable cannon power without trig is the following: adjust (10) in the "change x by (10)" for cake travel.)

Notes & Credits:
Project by Mike Roam, 2017, in Scratch. Imported to Snap! in 2025. Revised 2023 w/ sprite buttons in front and click-to-shoot cannon for tablets without keyboards. (Originally built in livecode, with scenario of sending food over river when bridge is broken. This version started in scratch in 2017, revised 2022.) Advanced possibilities: cakes have parachutes, or go splat and leave stains for a while.
Beware: "go to cannon" is cool in "When I start as a clone" but is NOT cool in "when space key is pressed" since original sprite messes with its clone(s).
Ideas: [ ] Cakes temporarily show their locs as dots to reveal change of dY. Perhaps use clones with lifespan. Have vertical obstacles (clouds? equivalent to basketball backstop) that change dX and/or dY.
